Short Course Training Support
Eligible construction workers can access up to $3,000 in subsidised short course training each year, with subsidies now prioritised across three categories:
- Essential Courses
- Training vital for safety, licensing, compliance and core construction capability. These include high-risk work, EWP, working at heights, and other safety-related units that meet regulatory requirements.
- Important Courses
- Training that strengthens productivity, specialised skills and technical capability on site. This includes plant, equipment, and trade-specific skill development.
- Supplementary Courses
- Courses that support broader professional development, leadership, technology use, communication and workplace culture.
All subsidies must be passed on directly to the student by CITB Endorsed Training Providers.
Regional Training Incentive
Access to training in regional and remote South Australia remains a key priority. We’re incentivising training providers to deliver regional training to make it easier for you to access by offset the additional costs of delivering that training in regional locations, including travel and accommodation. This initiative ensures workers in all parts of the state have equitable access to essential training and skills development.
tradie2trainer Scholarship
The tradie2trainer Scholarship supports experienced tradespeople and construction workers to transition into qualified Trainer roles, addressing the growing demand for skilled trainers in South Australia’s building and construction industry.
While metropolitan delivery of the tradie2trainer Scholarship is well-established, regional expansion is currently under development, with new programs planned for the Eyre Peninsula and Southeast regions. This expansion responds to local workforce needs and supports broader access to training across South Australia.
The next intake date for the tradie2trainer scholarship is February 2026. To express your interest, fill out and submit the form here.
Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives
CITB will continue to support industry-led initiatives that strengthen inclusion, cultural safety and workplace wellbeing. Through the Workplace Diversity Initiatives, workers and employers can access training and programs that support:
- Respectful and inclusive work environments
- Improved retention of diverse employees
- Culturally safe practices
- Mental health awareness and support
These initiatives contribute to a more positive and sustainable workforce culture across the construction sector.
Career Development and Upskilling
The Training Plan supports ongoing skill development for workers by enabling access to training that:
- Improves job readiness for major civil and infrastructure works
- Keeps pace with new technology and equipment used across the industry
- Supports trade specialisation and cross-skilling
- Prepares workers for supervisory or leadership roles
These opportunities help build a resilient, future-focused workforce that can adapt to changing demand and contribute to South Australia’s long-term growth.
Tools, Equipment and Training Support for Apprentices
The Work Equipment Voucher provides first-year apprentices with $500 to support the purchase of essential tools and equipment. Apprentices can also access subsidised short courses in safety and high-demand areas, ensuring they are job-ready for industry expectations.
Please note: Apprentices must apply for this voucher using their own CITB number.
