Course objectives: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. It applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Learning Outcomes: The aim of this course is to train and assess students to recognise and respond to life threatening emergencies in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines
On successful completion, students will be issued with the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment - HLTAID003 Provide first aid with the following competency standards: Recognise and respond to an emergency situation, identify assess and manage hazards, assess situation and casualty and recognise need for a first aid and apply appropriate procedures. Seek assistance from emergency response services, perform CPR, convey and report incident whilst maintaining confidentiality. Evaluate incidence and recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers involved in critical incidents, participate in debriefing to address individual needs.
