Course Objectives
This course is for trades, maintenance workers or managers looking to gain some practical knowledge in order to perform basic maintenance on or near asbestos - including removal of up to 10m2 of non-friable (bonded) asbestos.
This translates to anyone who may disturb, clean up, or remove small quantities of asbestos who are not required to have an asbestos removal licence, but must be adequately trained, under WHS regulation 445, in asbestos related works. Tasks considered are drilling/cutting, removal of debris, fixing to asbestos cement sheet, and many others. This further relates to WHS Part 9 (Reg 478-484) for defined Asbestos-Related Work.
The course includes tips to help recognise suspect material, sampling techniques, and processes to identify asbestos as part of risk assessments prior to commencing work. Training includes identifying where air monitoring is appropriate for asbestos related-work (under WHS Reg 50, and 482), combined with a workshop on a small removal scenario.
