CITB Forum Unveils Bold Initiatives for Construction Training and Support
In a dynamic gathering held at The Highway last Wednesday, CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) unveiled its ambitious plans and strategic directions for the upcoming years, marking a significant milestone in shaping the future of industry training and apprenticeship support in South Australia.
Launch of Annual Training Plan and Strategic Directions
CITB kicked off the forum with the launch of its comprehensive annual training plan, highlighting updates to the CITF ACT review process, celebrating achievements from the past year, and outlining strategic objectives. The plan emphasises increasing funding for the doorways2construction program, intensifying Career Driven programs, and enriching educational experiences with enhanced curriculum and work experience support for technical colleges.
Focus on Apprentice and D2C Surveys
A pivotal announcement came with CITB’s commitment to conduct research to better understand the needs and satisfaction of apprentices and trainees. The upcoming apprentice survey, in collaboration with independent consultants, aims to refresh insights into apprenticeship benefits, training satisfaction, and awareness of CITB support. Additionally, CITB will embark on its first-ever research project for the doorways2construction program, aligning it with recent policy changes to optimise program quality and student career pathways in the building and construction industry.
Program Evaluation and Support Reassessment
Recognising the importance of accountability and effectiveness, CITB introduced a robust program evaluation framework for the 2024-2025 Annual Training Plan. This initiative aims to establish a consistent and thorough evaluation model across all programs, ensuring their alignment with industry objectives and enhancing overall program success.
Industry Promotion and Levy Awareness
Looking ahead, CITB outlined a series of initiatives aimed at promoting industry standards and increasing levy awareness. These include digital enhancements, collaborations with educational bodies like the SA Skills Commission and Department for Education, and initiatives to support the revitalisation of vocational skills through partnerships like Worldskills in South Australia.
MATES in Construction
A highlight of the forum was a presentation by MATES in Construction, spotlighting their Life Skills Toolbox program for apprentices and a critical 24/7 helpline, funded by CITB. This initiative underscores CITB’s commitment to supporting mental health and wellbeing within the construction sector, ensuring apprentices receive holistic support throughout their training journey.
The forum at The Highway showcased CITB’s proactive approach in driving innovation and excellence within the construction industry. With strategic investments in training, comprehensive survey initiatives, and robust support structures, CITB is poised to foster a skilled and resilient workforce that meets the evolving demands of the construction sector in South Australia.
