School Based Apprenticeship Training Support
What is School Based Apprenticeship Training Support (SBATS)?
CITB are funding employers of school-based apprentices/trainees to contribute to the pipeline of young skilled workers needed for South Australia’s building and construction industry.
SBATS funding is available for new training contracts commencing on or after 1 July 2022 and can be received in addition to the Apprentice Training Support (ATS) funding available for post school apprenticeships.
SBATS places are capped at 150 for the 2024-2025 ATP year.

How much SBATS funding can I receive?
SBATS funding is a maximum amount of $2,500. With a payment of $1,250 processed once at the end of probation, and again on SACE completion (up to 2 payments).

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for funding, you, as the registered employer must:
- Be registered and approved as an employer with CITB
- Meet employer obligations described in the Training Contract (TC) and supporting Training Plan (TP).
- Ensure your apprentice/trainee is still employed and in an active training contract for the claim period.
- Have paid / will pay trade school fees for the apprentices/trainees.
- Acknowledge that CITB will seek to recover any payment made that is not compliant with funding criteria.
Your apprentice must have an approved CITB Number, and be undertaking an active School Based apprenticeship with a start date on or after 1 July 2022 and is within the first year of a new Training Contract (not a recommencement).

How to Claim
- Register your business with CITB.
- Get your apprentice to apply or renew their CITB number.
The first payment will be automatically pushed to your employer dashboard once your school-based apprentice has completed their probation period.
The second payment can be claimed once your apprentice has completed their SACE requirements and transitioned to a part or full time training contract.
